Much Love for our Student Workers

As you may have already figured out, there's A LOT to do on our beautiful campus, and in the surrounding area. There may be only one problem... some of the attractions in the surrounding area cost a little bit of money. So, I have a proposition for all you soon-to-be Adelphi students, or even prospective students - get a job on campus! I work in the admissions office as an admissions ambassador, where my duties are to give tours and help around with office work. Also, many of the admissions ambassadors in the office also answer phones and deal with questions. So, if you happen to call the admissions office and someone answers saying, "Hello this is student worker (insert name here) speaking..." that's us!

Along with working in the admissions office, there are also many other jobs around campus. One very popular one among students is working in the Alice Brown Early Learning Center. This is a preschool we have right on campus, and happens to be a great way to gain experience with children, if you happen to be going into a field where you would work with them. In our University Center, we have the Center for Student Involvement, which is a very popular place for students to look for jobs. Here, students do office work and help clubs and organizations with miscellaneous work they may have around the office. You can also work in our Panthertainment Booth, selling discounted movie tickets, discounted Broadway show tickets, and even lending out umbrellas or portable chargers. Another job we have on campus is working in the Center for Recreation and Sports (CRS). For this job, students swipe ID cards for gym access, greet any and all patrons who enter the CRS, tidy up the equipment room, and much more. Students are also able to be "Group Fitness Helpers," in which they help sign in all the students who come to their designated group fitness class, as well as help the instructor with anything they need. Also, if you're a certified lifeguard, we have a job for you at our 4-lane pool in the CRS! The possibilities are never ending!

These jobs described above are not even half of the available positions we have on campus. Often times, students are actually able to get a job in the departments in which they're interested in. Many times professors will look for student workers to help in out with filling or various other jobs around the office. So, definitely get to know your professors and express interest early on, so he/she will keep you in mind if/when the department is looking for a student worker.

I can already tell that becoming an admissions ambassador will be one of the best decisions I've made at Adelphi. This job has introduced me to so many amazing people I probably otherwise wouldn't have known, and has helped me integrate myself into the Adelphi community. Every counselor and student worker in the office is so extremely nice, which makes me genuinely enjoy going into work. I strongly suggest finding a job you love wherever you end up going to college, because believe me, you won't regret it!

Relay For Life 2015 - Leaving footprints.

On the 10th of April 2015, Adelphi University organized the 4th Annual Relay For Life. I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone who was present, that this was a night to remember. The event ran from 5 pm on the 10th to 5 am on the 11th, covering an array of events; from hair donations, to doing kick boxing and Zumba at 4 am. The most memorable, emotional and beautiful part of the entire event, was the luminaria ceremony organized to honor and remember everyone who's fighting the battle, and those who lost the battle. The luminaria ceremony showed every relayer that beneath all of our hope, there was a cure. A cure for the disease. A cure of love.

At 4.30pm, the committee along with all registered teams had raised approximately $60,000. By the end of the event, at 5am, the committee chairs along with our coordinator Chris Tellarico, revealed the final total. Adelphi University's Relay For Life 2015 raised a total of $75, 095.61; being the highest total we have raised since the start of RFL at Adelphi.

Seeing the entire community come together, towards the same cause was such a beautiful sight. Congratulations to the RFL 2015 committee and a great big wave of gratitude and thanks towards every single person who attended Relay. Let's win the battle.

Prepare yourself for Relay For Life 2015!

Annually, Adelphi University organizes the Relay For Life event on campus, hosted by the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life is Adelphi's largest fundraising event, and not only is it an event, but a night of love and hope in regard and solidarity towards all cancer patients. Students sign up under teams that are headed by clubs and societies they are a part of, or even make their own teams with family members signed up to relay. You don't have to be a student of Adelphi to sign up and relay with us. This year, Relay For Life is scheduled to be held on the 10th of April from 5pm to 5am of the 11th of April. The event will be held in the Center for Recreational Sports. The committee has an amazing list of fun filled events lined up for the night.

We are proud to say that as of today, we have raised the amount displayed on the image below!!! Help us fight the battle against cancer.

You don't have to be someone directly affected by the cause; you only need to someone who hopes for a cancer-free world. If you haven't signed up and wish to relay with us and enjoy a great night, sign up at: www.RelayForLife.org/AdelphiNY. You can also find out more information on the website. Feel free to check out our Facebook and Instagram pages: @adelphirelay to keep yourself updated about pre-relay events.

Shown below is the planned schedule for the night, and a list of activities and on-site fundraisers you'd find at the event. Most of our Admissions Ambassadors are on the committee and would love to see you all there. Sign up now and see you on the 10th.
